Description

Our presentation, based on research conducted with Brookings Mountain West at UNLV, will focus on the distribution and geographic concentration of data centers across Mountain West markets. We will present data from our recently published fact sheet, """"Data Centers in Mountain West Markets, 2026,"""" which derives data from DataCenterMap, a platform that tracks global data centers in real time. Our presentation will include state and market level data on data center counts and geographic concentration as of March 6th, 2026. We will present two data figures highlighting data on each Mountain West state and market: Table 1 provides the national ranking of each Mountain West state based on its total number of data centers. Table 2 presents the number of data centers in each Mountain West market, sorted in descending order. Figure 1 displays a bar chart comparing data center totals across the five Mountain West states. Our research highlights 3 key takeaways about the Mountain West: Arizona (7th) ranked among the top 10 states nationally for its number of data centers as of March 6, 2026, reporting the highest total among Mountain West states with 162 data centers. Phoenix (152) housed 93.8% of Arizona's data centers, while Denver (46) accounted for over 80% of Colorado's 56 data centers. Of Nevada's 68 data centers, 45.6% were located in Las Vegas (31), with Reno (22) and Yerington (14) accounting for the remainder of Nevada's distribution. These findings highlight the growth and geographic concentration of data center infrastructure across Mountain West markets.
