Abstract
The further growth of regulated (and unfortunately even more unregulated) gambling markets, which can be observed worldwide, also intensifies the discussion about what future findings in gambling research should provide. One can hear in conversations with scientists about the end of the prevalence studies. In a recent scientific publication, researchers in the field of gambling research were interviewed by other researchers in the same field. The result is a comprehensive, prioritized list of research topics. But does this meet the real need for knowledge of players, regulators, politics, and the gambling industry? At the same time, parts of the public health community are once again calling for bans on scientists on contact with industry as well as for the elimination of findings arising from such cooperation. In parallel, the public funding of high-quality gambling research is declining more and more globally. In this area of tension, the German Foundation on Gambling Research was founded as the first joint institution of state and private actors to promote German-language gambling research. The presentation will present the underlying concept and the instruments used.
