Abstract

This paper develops and presents a “top ten” style list for academics and industry professionals who are exploring the possibility of collaboration using data or experiments in the field. The list draws from a framework in the literature on negotiation and includes examples from a long-term collaboration between faculty and casino executives. Session participants who have experienced successful (or unsuccessful) collaborations are invited to contribute their examples, and to challenge or refine the elements on the list.

Author Bios

An experimental and behavioral economist, Croson’s research has focused on charitable giving,the voluntary provision of public goods, bargaining and negotiation, and behavioral operationsmanagement. Within the gambling arena, she has published multiple papers using data fromroulette, exploring the hot hand and the gambler’s fallacy and the impact of near-misses onbetting behavior. Other gambling work has investigated the extent of skill versus luck in pokerplay, and the impact of heuristics and biases at the poker table.
