Abstract
Sports gambling represents one of the final opportunities for states to expand their gambling revenues. This paper will examines the effect that sports gambling had on the overall gambling revenues for five Northeastern states (NJ, PA, NY, MA and RI) with well established gambling sectors (lottery, casino, online gambling). Using ARIMA Intervention analysis, it is the aim of the paper to begin to answer three questions: (1) Is sports gambling a unique gambling market? (2) Does sports gambling canniablize other gamblign segments? (3) Is sports gambling the primary area of grwoth for gambling revenues?
