Abstract
Norsk Tipping, the Norwegian state-owned lottery and gambling company, is a pioneer in the gambling industry through its secure player identification, proactive outreach to at-risk players, and the implementation of mandatory loss limits. Norsk Tipping’s highest priority is to offer attractive games in a responsible manner. Since 2016, care calls have been a cornerstone in Norsk Tipping’s work on responsible gambling. Thousands of players receive a care call on a yearly basis, and a high rate of calls end in a player taking action to change their gambling behavior. This presentation will focus on the effect of care calls and their significant results. We will address the effect on different groups of players, as well as how we interact with them on a unique level. Data analysis on the long-time effects of the calls will be included, along with which group of players are more likely to be motivated to change their gambling habits. We will also address player responses to care calls and whether players stick to their decisions made during said calls. This presentation will answer question such as do care calls work, and do the players change their gambling behavior long term? Previously, research articles have been published on the effect of Norsk Tipping’s care calls (cf. Jakob Jonsson in 2019: https://doi.org/10.1037/adb0000447), and this presentation provides an updated picture of the impact and developments since then.
