About the Collection

This collection contains reports from the Cultural Site Stewardship Program, located within the Public Lands Institute. Currently, many sensitive cultural sites in southern Nevada are being damaged by vandalism and looting. Budget constraints on the federal land management agencies mean that they lack sufficient personnel to care for these precious sites. The Institute is implementing a targeted volunteer program to monitor and protect cultural resources.

The program brings together local community organizations, tribes, the State Historic Preservation Office, and cultural and natural resource management specialists to recruit and train specialized volunteers to monitor and protect sensitive sites. The program is closely connected with the Interagency Volunteer Program, which is another component of the Cooperative Conservation Initiative.

Records are organized by Year, Author, and Title. To view the entire collection of UNLV faculty research across all programs, visit the All Faculty Research collection.
