Abstract

The sudden illness and subsequent death of Dominque Conway’s husband, Marshall “Eddie” Conway in February of 2023, dredged up painful memories of the separation that the couple experienced during his long incarceration. In April of 1970, Eddie, a member of the Black Panther Party, was arrested for the murder and assault of two Baltimore City police officers. Their worlds collided in 2002, when as an activist engaged in social justice work, Dominque took an interest in his case. The two were immediately drawn to each other, quickly falling in love. This is the story of their love told through letters that the couple shared.
