Abstract

Faculty teaching in online nursing programs must continually adapt to evolving educational technologies and pedagogical methods to ensure high-quality learning experiences. However, nursing faculty may lack the resources, knowledge, and skills needed to effectively implement technology-driven, learner-centered strategies that facilitate engagement in virtual classrooms. Supporting faculty development in available interactive technologies is essential to enhance instructional effectiveness and improve student engagement and learning outcomes. This Doctor of Nursing Practice project focuses on strengthening faculty knowledge and competence in using interactive, learner-centered strategies in online education. The project was implemented within a southern Nevada university’s school of nursing and provided an evidence-based training session designed to build faculty proficiency with innovative technologies and teaching methods. The session incorporated engagement strategies addressing the cognitive, affective, and psychomotor domains of learning. Faculty participants were invited to explore, practice, and evaluate technology-enhanced approaches to designing and delivering interactive online content. The overarching goal of this project was to empower faculty to confidently access, navigate, and apply interactive technologies that support a student-centered approach to online teaching. Faculty learning outcomes were measured through pre- and post-test assessments to evaluate knowledge acquisition and self-reporting of confidence in applying learned strategies. This project’s aim was to strengthen instructional quality and promote innovation in online course delivery by equipping nursing faculty with the tools and skills necessary for technology-enhanced interactive teaching.
