Description

Join UNLV’s Writing Center for an interactive, informative session focused on open, online writing support for all writers affiliated with the university. The session features the Writing Center’s administrative team and current Lead Consultants: graduate students who have worked multiple semesters at the Writing Center; serve in a mentoring capacity to other Consultants (comprising undergraduates, graduate students, and Part Time Instructors); and actively engage in project work. Presenters will describe two such projects: (1) the Writing Center’s online, accessible handouts and (2) its YouTube video series. Both projects extend the Writing Center's reach beyond its direct interactions with writers (via consultations, presentations, and workshops) and offer easy-to-locate, timely support. Presenters will demonstrate how attendees can utilize handouts and videos to locate answers to common writing questions and concerns and discuss where the Writing Center is in its Creative Commons process. Attendees will leave with a better understanding of how the Writing Center’s online presence serves as a vital teaching and learning tool available 24/7.
